The Irwell runs into and through the very heart of the Manchester City Region providing the linking thread between many of its most iconic and recognisable buildings and international landmarks from the past and present

These include historic features such as Peel Park, the first park to be created by public subscription, Manchester and Salford Cathedrals, some of the world’s earliest railway and canal infrastructure, the Roman fort at Castlefield, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Tudor Ordsall Hall and the docks at Pomona and Salford Quays.

Contemporary landmarks include The Lowry, Imperial War Museum North and now MediaCityUK at the Quays, as well as Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United FC, the new Beetham Tower and Urbis.
